Monday / Tuesday

monday and tuesday, two days… and very stressy…

By monday no group had really done something for their project. our teacher alexia thought we would have done our project in our spare time, well wrong impression… and omg, classwork on monday was sooo funnyyy :D

“alexia: you were all such good students on friday, well the most of you still are, just jacob and philip are tough today.”

but still we survived classwork, still not have done much for our project we went to our second out of three fieldworks.
Pia, Mo and me, we went to pia’s house, after our mother told us on friday we shouldn’t bring friends. there we researched something about the history of coffee and tea and about the British Tea Culture and how it is fading.

on tuesday’s classwork we started doing something for our presentation in classwork. and during fieldwork, we did our lasts interviews and put them in our presentation. so that for wednesday we just needed to do some last details.

in the evenings:
On monday we went to Westwood Cross to Vue, a cinema theater to watch “I love you, Phillip Morris”
The story was actually rather okay, though very long and sometimes really boring and a little disgusting :D
Very good was the shock  in one of the last scenes where the plot takes a strong turn, but i don’t want to specify, if someone out there still hasn’t watched it.

On tuesday we went bowling! In my opinion the best evening we had in the week. strikes and spares… and a perfect play! (though no one did one :D )
For some the first time in a bowling center and i can tell they liked it. the whole class had fun, and that was the aim of it, right? :)

The Weekend in England =)

I’m so sorry I didn’t write earlier, but as we may all know our project took a whole bunch of time to finish and in the last night in Ramsgate our internet access didn’t work…

But yeah, now to Saturday, the 20th of march.
we had the morning free, so everyone could decide what to do, whether to go have a walk through the town center or the beach or just to have one day to sleep longer.
We decided to have a walk on the beach. So Pia, Stephan, Dronca, Moritz and I we walked and walked and walked. It may sound really boring but it wasn’t at all. We loved it, we had a great weather and walking near to the sea was just wonderful. We walked till we reached the white/west cliffs, and then we returned.

In the Afternoon we had Canterbury on our timetables. We met at 2 pm, and it took us about 45 min to get to our destination. First of all we visited the Canterbury Cathedral, which was beautiful. We had the pleasure to enjoy walking inside the church with the singing of a coral. We learned a lot of the history of the Church in England, and how the King Henry II was misunderstood and his knights killed the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket. And then how Henry VIII let destroy his tomb, because he had founded the Church of England and didn’t want nothing that was from the Catholic Church.
Afterward we had 3 hours of spare time to spend in Canterbury, which actually have a lot of shops, though the most of us didn’t know how much time we’d have, no one really shopped.
I just went to Starbucks with Philipp, Florian, Moritz, Stephan and Pia, and I had a Caramel Frappucino, yummy, I love it!

In the night we had a freaking scary ghost tour through Canterbury xD joking, we had a ghost tour, but it wasn’t scary at all, I guess it was rather ridiculous… No one really liked it.
We returned at 11 pm.

Sunday the 21st of march:
Sunday was on my opinion the Best Day of the Week!
resuming the day in one word: LONDON!
We leaved Ramsgate at about 8.30 am. It took us 2 hours to arrive in London, we disembarked near to the Waterloo Station and walked strait to the London Eye. As we arrived there we could already see it, the Big Ben with the Houses of Parliament, where the house of Commons and the house of Lords have their sessions. It took us a long time to go to the Westminster Abbey, but not because it was so far away, no, just because we just wanted to take pictures over pictures (mainly our friend Jessna, right ;) )
From Westminster  we walked the Parliament street until the Horse Guards, with a quick look to the Downing Street 10, where the prime minister, Gordon Brown lives. Max was the only one of us who had the courage to touch the horses, after Oz told us they could kick or bite :D
From the horse guards we entered St. James Park and had a 10 min break to eat something or watch the squirrels. After the break we went on to the Buckingham Palace, where there was the changing of guards, though we could just see the “new” guards and the military band arriving through The Mall. We walked the same street but on the opposite  direction to Trafalgar Square, one of the most visited squares in the world. Leaving the square with the column of Admiral Nelson behind us we went to the Covent Garden, our meet point.
We then had 6 hours time to go shopping or eat something or do whatever we wanted to. Oxford st. was waiting for us to come!
A please to all our classmates, write what you’ve done as a comment, so we can have a good idea of what people did! thank you.
at 6.30 pm we left London to arrive at about 8.30/9 pm in Ramsgate.

Already on thursday night we had this “meeting/party” kinda thing in the Churchill Tavern. some good hours we spent there doing nothing… :D

Afterwards we, thats saying, Pia, Conny, Mo and I, we accompanied Anna home, cuz she wasn’t sure how to return
At 23 pm Mo and me, we finally arrived home to go to sleep.

Friday, the 19th of march:

Friday we had our first “real” day in England, we were split in two groups, Group A with classwork in the morning and Group B with fieldwork in the morning.

At 9 am John showed us a presentation about Ramsgate and afterwards people with fieldwork in the morning left the school to go explore the city.
The classwork group had their first surprise. Cuz as it seemed to be we weren’t doing anything for the final presentation during the time in class, Alexia, our teacher was just trying to explain what was the purpose of our visit and how to present something in a good way. We eventually had to make a small presentation on subjects we’ve listed before.
At 12.05, we had lunch and at 2 pm fieldwork started for Group A whereas Group B had Classwork. I was in group A, so we had fieldwork, and since everyone went their way I can only tell you my story.

Pia, Mo and me, we first structured our questionnaire and what exactly we wanted to ask the people. Then after some relaxing time, we headed out to our first cafe shop, caffe nero in the High Street. In our way we met Dronca and Stephan. They came with us, and once being at the cafe we ordered. A cafe americano, which would be like the Wiener Melange as we discovered.
After giving the place a rate, we searched our first “victims”, a couple. They were  really nice and friendly and answered our questions in a really detailed way. It was fun!

In the evening we went to Canterbury to watch the “Pajama Game”, which had a pretty good soundtrack, and the acting was really convincing, even though one actor was really ridiculous. All in all the musical was pretty good, though it was really long, as our Mr. Gruber may know ;)

That’s it for today
See you fellows tomorrow at 9.

About Ramsgate:

Ramsgate is a seaside town in the very east of Kent (Southeast England). The town has about 40.000 inhabitants and its main attraction is the coastline. The main industries are fishing and tourism.

Other attractions of the town are:
The Italianate Greenhouse (dated from 1810)
The Minster Abbey (maybe the oldest house in England, 670 AD)
The RAF Manston History Museum (with aircrafts from 1916 until today)
The Boating Pool (a leisure park with arcades, restaurants, so on)

And for those who wants to shop :D
The Westwood Cross Shopping Center, which has some shops as:
Marks & Spencer (clothes), TK Maxx (designer clothing discount ~ US: TJ Maxx), H&M, Burton (clothes) , Next (clothes), Clarks (shoes), DW Sports (sport textiles),  a cinema and some other shops
exact listing: http://www.westwoodx.co.uk/stores/atozofstores/index.aspx
Maybe we could organize a trip to this mall, if it would be in anyones interest…
